How To Reinvent Your Style
Please read about the 4 steps to organizing your wardrobe before you continue. I elaborated on the first step of clustering here. The second step of decluttering here. And now I will talk about ways to reinvent your style.
#1 All-Rounder Basics
If you do not have a black t-shirt and a pair of blue jeans in your wardrobe already, where have you been? Basics form the foundation of any good multi-functional wardrobe. They are the base where you can build your style from. Basics like a white shirt, black pants, black dress, gold, or silver chain are popular choices to reinvent your style any day. They are easy to combine with colorful jackets, accessories, or scarves.
#2 Accessorize
Convert a day outfit to evening outgoing outfit with a bit of bling. I am fond of earrings and often find them sufficient to uplift an outfit. A bright red lipstick takes care of the make up department for me. But other options can be statement chains, necklaces, scarves, watches, clutches, and handbags. Guys can embrace sunglasses, watches, belts, and bags to style up their outfit as well. The key tip to remember is to focus on not more than 1 or 2 statement accessories. Make sure the colors match. I am a fan of contrast but your style could be the same color too.
#3 Alter What You Have
I have owned a sewing machine for years now. Learning to make minor changes and mending should be known to all, I feel. I sometimes wonder why sewing does not get the same importance as cooking skills. It is handy day today and it saves you a lot of money. I know a lot of people who go shopping every time they gain or lose a bit of weight. A bit of alteration can go a long way in saving money and also sometime restyling an outfit you are bored of.
#4 Reflect Your Lifestyle
Being a minimalist comes at a price. I often feel tempted to try a new trend that a celebrity is flaunting on social media. Or just get that cute outfit which is on a big scale. But ask the question, does your wardrobe really reflect your lifestyle? For instance, I had to cut down on Indian Kurtis once I started cycling to the office more often. It was not comfortable for me to pedal with long parts of Kurtis or scarf flying. Style does not have to be impractical. Think utility and comfort over fashion trends.
