A Bitter Sweet Ride

bitter sweet ride

Pedalling along the steep slope of the tree-lined lanes I was thinking. I hated this. I hated this so much. Switching to the lowest gear, putting all my energy into it. Puffing and panting. This is why I have to sell this bike. Enough is enough.

The workday was tiring enough. The slow struggle on the bike is not required. It just solidifies my distress. Makes me hate going to work for reasons beyond the work itself.

Then, the lane straightened, and the pedalling became smoother. I was sailing past the trees and the buildings. My short hair brushed my forehead and then moved away on its own. I loved this. I loved this so much. This is why I do not have to sell this bike. I will miss this feeling.

If it wasn’t for this bike ride, I would have had to walk so long in the sun and reach the office soaked in sweat. This could well be because of the blazer I insist on wearing all the time. But the bike makes my blazer irrelevant. No sweat, just breeze. Swift ride to and from the office.

The gear changed again. This time it was a steep downhill. Please switch to the highest gear quickly. Please oh please. Don’t get stuck in between the gears. What bike does that? It is behaving as if I don’t get it serviced at all. It will be better sold and out of my hand.

Even the servicing shop was so hard to find in the godforsaken little town of Germany. I am sure that you can buy a new bike cheaper than the servicing charges. Not the best bike ride experience. They made the roads cycling-friendly. Why not the servicing too?

Thankfully I am home now. Ah, I forgot about comfortable it is to place this office laptop bag in the basket behind me. This basket is the ideal size for my needs. It definitely made the grocery errands and office going so much easier. And yes, this is why I am keeping the bike.
