How to style your walls on a budget

To give your home more life and character, you don’t need to shell out a lot of money or time to choose decorations that classify as antiques or are made of expensive material. It is often enough to use your imagination and spread a bit of yourself in the house in terms of colors and wall decor. Some standard and some modern ways of to style your walls are discussed here:

Paintings:

Make it local. Ya. Why not? So we all have heard of the European classic paintings and it will be great to see them every day on your wall. At least a copy of them. But use this opportunity to recognize the heritage of your own country and give them the recognition that they deserve. I have written before about Warli paintings(Glimpses of Indian Tradition: Warli Paintings) but do not restrict to that. Go for Tanjore Paintings of South India or the Madhubani Paintings of the North. If not folk art, hang some drawings from your kids, employees or your own to add character to your home or workplace.

Stencil Art:

It is the In-Thing as they say. Its the burning fad in the home decor area these days. If you have to decorate your bedroom or children’s rooms and give it a customized twist then stencil art on the wall in the sexiest thing around. It becomes part of your house like a skin.

Photos:

Memories rather. Don’t hang the photos of today’s day. Instead, go for your childhood pictures or those from the friends or family you miss and create a “Memories Wall”. That colleague who always smiled. That classmate who was crazy about selfies. That adventure you can never forget. And as a side effect, these pictures become your ice-breakers with guests when someone comes to your home.

Racks:

Strategically placed racks and slabs with books or decoratives on them can give you lot of storage place while adding style to your room. Souvenirs from your travels, adventures, gifts from special friends are always befittingly to be placed on these racks.

Family Tree:

Combine a stencil art of a tree with photos placed on each branch depicting your family tree. It can be a great idea for gifting someone. Of course, you have to take the pain to keep the person away from that room for an evening but imagine the surprise after they see this unique gift in the end.

Medals, Prizes:

It will be sad to have a life where you do nothing but your daily job. Show the other sides of your personality by displaying the prizes and medals won at your various passions and activities. Be it a Marathon finisher medal or a simple Best-out-of-Waste winner certificate. Displaying these prizes not only talks to visitors about your efforts but also motivates you to keep going further in life every time you see them.

Tell me how you would style your walls. Will it be some ideas out of this list or do you have something of your own? Maybe you hang a cycle or a guitar on your wall? It could be anything that appeals to you or that adds character to your home.
